At DPC we consider the relationship of volunteering as a mutual benefit for both parties involved. Therefore, we promote volunteer opportunities not only thinking of the migrant population (aid projects) but also the host community (awareness-raising projects).
Constructing person by person: an open proposal for inclusion
From STARFISH, with an integral and personalized criterion, far from paternalistic and assistance-based views, we opt for a type of intervention that enhances the capacities of the people we accompany (young migrants without family references in Spain). We put a lot of interest in providing them with broad, varied and solid support networks. We encourage mentoring as a tool for building consistent social bonds. We value sport as a means of integration.

In this way, we are able to satisfy not only basic needs, but also at develop and strengthen a capacity for reflection and, critical spirit that allows them to make the best decisions.
We are currently accompanying several young people from Morocco and sub-Saharan Africa. A Social Worker collaborates with DPC to provide this accompaniment and personalized follow-up.
Building “drop by drop”: an intercultural pedagogical proposition.
We try to collaborate “drop by drop” in raising awareness among the Spanish society regarding the migration phenomenon; being conscious and having the sensitivity from the viewpoint of considering the reception of migration as an opportunity instead of an issue.
We work with the private enterprise, universities, institutes, schools and other groups of interested people, taking advantage of all the opportunities that come us by to raise awareness in a comprehensive way, based on learning while participating. For this, it’s important to visualize and give a new significance to the multicultural subject in a context of a relevant change at the arrival and stay of persons coming from different countries and backgrounds. Thus, we create the space of communication and collective and interactive dialog between the hosting society and the people who facilitate the program. Experience tells us that it’s always a win-win situation.

The young ones at the STARFISH Program help us to communicate in the different contexts in which we operate. This is something that makes us very proud!
Donations to DPC make the growth of RAINDROPS easier and, to be able to include more education centers, more enterprises, more cultural centers… which implies that hundreds of people can develop this transforming empathy NOW.
Constructing word by word: a positive communication proposal
Through the MIGRATION+ Project, we invite you to collaborate with any positive+ communication about migrations. We invite you to provide us with texts, images or other communicative elements so that we can disseminate them through our website, social networks and our newsletter Migration+.
You can also visit our blog or subscribe to receive Migrations + by email.
What do we mean by positive + communication?
At DPC we aim to do our bit –word by word– to generate the positive meaning that migration deserves. We believe in a type of communication that, paying attention and feeling curiosity for similarities and differences, considers both the unique existence of “the other” and our own. We work to configure a space in which different types of beings can coexist and relate in the same world.
Constructing idea by idea: a creative proposal for a transcultural society
The DPC THINK TANK is constituted as an action-research group made up of a series of diverse and creative people who propose – from intercultural and transcultural perspectives – strategic interventions and actions to achieve the integration and equality of migrants with mutual benefits for the people of the fostering society.
This long-term strategy is necessary to prepare, in particular, for the arrival of hundreds of children who reach Spain alone each year and, in general, for the arrival of all migrants.
We think that there is no time to wait for great solutions to our migratory situation!
Constructing event by event: a solidarity proposal for civil society
Our dear Colette came up with the idea of celebrating her thirteenth birthday by asking her friends to donate money to DPC instead of receiving gifts. She felt happy to contribute to the welfare of other young people who are not as lucky as her. This led us to design this Project, CELEBRATE AND DONATE, in which we invite people to celebrate their events altruistically. From Colette’s example, we have celebrated more birthdays; generosity is contagious! The possibilities are endless: performances, galas, races, wedding registries… If something of what you’ve read so far resonates within you, you might want to follow Colette’s example.
